My Camp report for Spring 2003
This was to be the earliest that I have ever gone to Camp. After carefully packing
the car on Monday evening Daddy and I went to sleep early so we could get an early
start on Tuesday morning. By 5:00 AM on Tuesday we were on the way to Camp. The
trip to Camp was nice with alternating clear sunny skies and cloudy intervals. We
stopped several times along the way for little snacks and something to drink. At
around 10:30 AM we were driving through Stroudsburg and stopped at a nice gift shop
so we could get a couple of mother's day presents. Then we continued on our way to
Camp.
We arrived at Camp at about 11:30 AM. I was surprised and very happy that there were
several other girls who had also arrived at Camp early. After I got checked in I went
to my room to open it up and get ready to move me in. I was very disappointed to find
that apparently the last one to occupy the room had been smoking something that had a
smell that was both very very strong and very very bad. I opened the windows and
sprayed lots of Lysol, but it was Friday before the odor abated at all. For the first
three nights whatever it was gave me a headache too. When I go to Fall Camp I will
try to make other room arrangements if I find the same situation. Daddy has been
thinking of taking something with us to help clean the air.
With the extra delay I was moved into my room and out and ready to play by about
2:00 PM. Later in the afternoon while I was talking with the others, I found out
that the Camp dining room is not open on Tuesday evenings. After a lot of discussion,
we decided to have one of the local delivery places bring our dinner to Camp. Mr.
Angelo was very accommodating and allowed that we could use the "Sun Room" part of
the dining room because it could be closed off from the rest of the dining room. He
also provided some nice pitchers of soda for us to drink. We telephoned our order
and sat in the Sun Room talking while we waited for our food to arrive. We had a
very nice time with our Early Girl's Picnic. We even speculated that perhaps we
should make the Early Girl's Picnic a regular part of Camp.
By the time we finished our dinner it was getting quite dark and so it wasn't long
before I returned to my room to sleep. On Wednesday morning I was up and out by
7:30 AM. I took a short walk and ended up at the main lodge porch.
I am truly sorry, but I never got a chance to finish this report. The good news is
that I have just returned from Fall Camp of 2003 and will write a report for Fall
Camp.
